Tree Pruning Descriptions

The following descriptions will help you understand what we will accomplish when we prune your trees. These descriptions are taken from the American National Standard for Pruning (ANSI A300). Pruning objectives should be agreed upon prior to beginning the pruning operation. A300 provides two basic objectives: Hazard Reduction Pruning Reduction pruning is recommended when the primary objective is to reduce the danger to a specific target caused by visibly defined hazards in a tree. Maintenance Pruning Maintenance Pruning is recommended when the primary objective is to maintain or improve tree health and structure, and includes hazard reduction pruning. tree pruning

Pruning Types

Hazard reduction pruning and maintenance pruning should consist of one or more of the pruning types listed below.

Crown Cleaning
Crown Cleaning is the selective removal of one or more of the following items: dead, dying or diseased branches, weak branches and watersprouts.
Crown Thinning
Crown Thinning is the selective removal of branches to increase light penetration, air movement, and reduce weight.
Crown Raising
Crown Raising is the removal of the lower branches of a tree to provide clearance.
Crown Reduction
Crown Reduction reduces the height and/or spread of the tree. This treatment is often chosen for older trees with potentially hazardous defects to keep them in the landscape.
Vista Pruning
Vista Pruning is the selective thinning of framework branches or specific areas of the crown to allow a view of an object from a predetermined point.
Crown Restoration
Crown Restoration pruning should improve the structure, form and appearance of trees that have been severely headed (topped), vandalized or damaged by weather.
